I honestly didn’t think that I would ever have a chance to cross this one off my bucket list. I never drank in high school, and the first time alcohol crossed my lips was when I was abroad…at the ripe ol’ age of 20.
Even though I do drink now, though, I’m what they call alcohol illiterate. No establishment would even CONSIDER hiring the girl who thinks that everyone could choose a drink by answering one question—red or white?
Turns out the person the only person who would “hire me” was my mother (big surprise, huh?) She needed someone to bartend for my dad’s surprise 50th birthday party.
The Good: Bartending is a way to be social, even if superficially so. I think Brig and I were the only ones who managed to have a conversation with everyone at the party that night.
The Bad: You are expected to know every drink that exists. No, I do not know how to make a White Russian. I don’t even know the proportions of a vodka tonic.
The Ugly: Bartending is for Night Owls. A 4 am bedtime…no thank you!
